does this mean they're friends

I was introducing a male - female (Alan to Cara) by switching them back
and forth every 12 hours, starting since Friday night (It's been three
full days).  I was planning to give it a week.  However they've chewed
through the separator and now are actively mating (no signs of fighting,
just soft squeaking, thumping, etc. etc.)  Can I assume they are
friends?  Or should I keep an eye on them and/or go back to split cage
introductions?
