Hi Donna! Usually it's best not to "hold" a gerbil but to let it run
from one hand to the other. If you're enclosing a gerbil in your
hand(s), it will certainly squirm, and possibly bite! They don't like
being restrained.
So, put one hand next to the other and let the gerb go from one to the
next, making a "living treadmill" with your hands. They also like
running up your arm, climbing on shoulders, etc.
