Hi, awhile back in december, I unsubscribed from this list to go on vacation, and, upon returning, I was happy to see a lack of messages, so I decided to stay off for good.  Well, now it's summertime, so I think I'll rejoin.  Anyway, the real reason for my joining again is that a gerbil, which I gave my aunt and cousin, has mysteriously died.  It's a male gerbil, living with another male in a 20 g. terrarium.  The gerbil who died, Riley, had been blind since birth, with his eyes just never opening.  >From what I've heard, there have never been any problems between him and the other gerbil, Chester, and, they are only a little over a year old, so I doubted it was old age.  Here's what my aunt wrote about it:

"upon closer inspection,  I found his neck bone sticking completely out
of his neck.  Is it possible Chester killed him?  Have you come across
anything like this in your gerbil research? I know that some animals will
attack weaker animals when they sense they are dying."

Any help you could provide would be appreciated, as my cousin does not yet know of Riley's death, and an explanation might prove helpful.
