Just FYI, not all people feed their snakes gerbils because they are cheaper
than rats, it's usually the opposite.  Several breeds of pythons eat
rodents similar to gerbils as their natural food, and don't like to eat
other types of rodents.

Yes, it's true.  However, humane snake keepers will stun, or preferably
kill, their feeder animals before giving them to the snakes.
