I too have had a few experiences with "homosexual gerbils", I have one tank
with 6 males in it, and one in particular seems to exhibit these tendencies
on a consistent basis (others will mount one another occasionally to
establish dominance), almost everyday he will be seen chasing and
"mating""this one gerbil
My other experience is with a tank of 3 females, they are all related, a
mother and her 2 daughters--they seem to come into heat around the same time
and at this time they will chase and "mate" with each other
