Gerbils tend to ignore dog biscuits.

I give them to my hamsters (syrian, dwarf campbell and chinese dwarf)
and they relish them. The biscuits provide added nutrients and help
keep the teeth worn down.

Gerbils do not chew on them. Period. I threw out the biscuits at
cleaning time with nary a toothmark on them.

Give your gerbils chunks of apple or pear tree wood (peeled
branch chunks at least an inch in diameter and four long) or
white pine (I give dimensional lumber leftovers, 2x4 chunks
about 3-4 inches long...with no paint or pressure treating,
plain common lumber pieces with the splinters removed)

P.S., rats and mice do like the biscuits and will chew them.
Gerbils won't!
