Mixing Genders

Hello everyone...   I was just wondering what would happen if I were to put 4 males and one female in a single 20 gallon tank? would they fight? the reason I want to know is...I have deminished tank space and I am interested in breeding, but I am not sure as to what I should do, short of a tank separator.   Thanks, Jason
