Hi Everyone,
I think my Burmese male, Snickers has had a heart attack or stroke. I'm not
sure of his age, but I think he is at least two years old; he may be older.
The breeder I got him from never gave me any info on him.
Last weekend when I was cage cleaning, I noticed he didn't quite seem to be
himself. He was very inactive and uninterested in what was going on. I tried
keeping a close eye on him to see if he would eat or drink. I have not seem
him do this on his own.
Two days ago I decided to add ornycycline to his water. He will only drink a
little at a time when I am holding him. A few times he has climbed into the
food dish but was to weak to eat. I have managed to get him to take a few
bites of a sunflower seed. I had to break the seed open for him.
I thought I was going to lose him two days ago. When I was holding him
trying to warm him up, he started gasping for air and was struggling. I
decided he would be more comfortable in his cage if he was going to pass on.
His gasping became very intense and he thrashed around the cage for a couple
of minutes. It was so sad seeing him like this. After a few minutes he
called down and his breathing became more regular. I was wondering if that
was a heart attack he was experience. After that incident he was extremely
weak and wobbly.
I have been trying several times a day to give him fluids and offer him
sunflower seeds. Sometimes he takes it and sometimes he don't. He is very
light and bony feeling. I did check his teethe and they seem fine. His cage
mates are also fine and active. His bottom seems wet but I would assume he
is not moving after he urinates causing it to get on his fur.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can keep him comfortable while
he recovers or spends his last few days with me?
I plan on going away for three days, I am leaving on Tuesday. I think I may
take him with me so I can continue to feed him and give him water. I think
that would be better than leaving him home not knowing if he can eat on his
own.
Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks,
Ann-Marie
