Hey all -.o

I was going to send this message privately to Julian, but since there
seems to be no definite answer and I figured there might be other members on
the list that would want to throw in their two cents, I'm going to send it
out to everyone instead. ^.^
Donna (another list member) was helping me figure out the genetics of
some of my gerbils, whereupon I mentioned that my slate female has neither
ruby nor black eyes.  Instead, it's that 'wine' color we all know and love
(hehe -.o) that sometimes only shows it's true redness in certain light,
otherwise looking black.  Here's a copy of a part in her e-mail to me.. :

And for P.. how is that her eyes are not quite black and not quite
ruby?  Would I write that as "Pp" regardless?

[EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:
That's a surprise.  The only time I've seen the "wine" color eyes are
on chcb gerbils (perhaps a cb would cause it, but I don't know??).  You would
know Pp if one of her parents were pp or if she produced a pp pup.  (To
produce a pp pup, then both of the pair would have to be Pp).

[EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:
Or does the P somehow mingle with the Cch (if that's what her 'C' gene
actually is..) to cause that 'wine' color in her eyes?

[EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:
Julian may know the answer to that, I'm not sure.

Unfortunately, I do not as of now know the colors and genetics of the slate's
parents.. I'm waiting on Paige for that. (:  If anyone knows anything on what
we've discussed.. feel free to e-mail me, or the list, if you feel it won't
bring clutter.

Thanks to everyone who responds, in advance. ^.^
