I agree 100% with the cautious approach on bedding.
For my gerbils -- no cloth, fiber, and no more egg
cartons (I clip those drink carriers from McD's)...
But I did want to make a (humorous!) reply to this...

I have such a time keeping my now 14 gerbils in
cardboard! I am driving my husband crazy with the
plastic cereal bags out of the boxes and have resorted
to clipping those oh-well-they're-almost-done toilet
paper and paper towel rolls from work.
Does this sound familiar? or is it just me?
(I have one female who single handedly can take down a
cereal box in about 90 minutes -- she's like those
cartoon termites.)
