I'm finding this discussion on gerbil petting very
interesting.  I never thought about it before, but
there are several ways I'm noticing that I do "pet" my
gerbis without placing my hands over their head and
back (which they don't like).
Way #1 was to make a tunnel (or cave with a small
opening) with my two hands and have them crawl
through.

Way #2 is to hold them cupped in two hands and rub
their sides with my thumbs.
