taking ou the wheel

I am expecting pups in about a week from today, and I was wondering when
should I take out the wheel so that the mother cant run on it because I've
heard its bad for the pups.  I also have some plastic habitrail tubes in her
tank, should I take those out?
Once I do have pups when can I put back the wheel if I do take it out.
