My gerbil will chew anything basically, especially cardboard, but yes,
she goes absolutely nuts with toilet paper rolls. I am no expert, but I
believe it's just because they are the perfect size for them, they can
crawl through them and can pull it all around the cage with them. I have
a few friends collecting their rolls for us, since my Muffy will get in a
frenzy if she doesn't get a roll a day!
