Numbers of Gerbil pups??

Greetings folks!!

My new pair of gerbils (red-eyed Honey and nutmeg) just had a
solitary pup.  Mom and dad seem to be caring for it zealously, but
there seems to be no sign of labour now and no sign there was any
other pups...

I have never had less than four pups in a litter...how about you
folks?
