I probably have not read the messages you refer to, but it is worth
noting that most gerbil deaths are by dehydration -
If a gerbil is ill or injured to the extent where it is not drinking or
eating it will dehydrate in 24-48 hours. That is why the most important
thing you can do to any ill or injured gerbil is make sure it is getting
fluids.
