I woke up this morning to check on my split cage mates - Eclipse and
the yet to be named golden agouti - only to find the golden agouti
had gotten around the barrier somehow. This has happened once before
but apparently (the little golden was recently shipped to me, so he's
still terribly on edge) was not happy to find another gerbil in the
tank with him this time.
I'm pretty sure Eclipse died rather painlessly, but it was a big blow
to me, as he was beginning to recover from the respiratory infection
with the stepped up doses I'd been giving him. It looks like it was
just one quick bite to the neck, the fur there was just a touch
matted and darker in color, and there was no other sign of nibbling
on him.

I will dearly miss the little fellow, as he was quite tame and I was
looking forward to breeding from him. We buried him under a rock in
the front yard (as Siggy rules the back yard). *sniffs* My pretty
little slate.

As far as other news goes, poor Einstein can't seem to convince
Trinity that he's the man for her, and now I must get the nameless
golden agouti another catemate(s) before too long. This is already
being taken care of, I just hope he settles in before soon, so I can
get to know him and pick a name for the fellow! He's been kinda
skittish the past couple days, but this is understandable after
finding himself in a new place after an unusual journey.

Now if only Trinity would see things straight and fall for Einstein.
He's even been trying to impress her! He's never been much of a
chewer, but now when I put cardboard playthings in their split tank,
he drags it up to the partition and goes to town on it. I think he's
trying to prove that he can build a good nest! :)

Thanks for listening.
