ah, its very heavy, and sits squarely on top, so there is no way for them
to get out of the top
(ive had gerbil escapees before, but only from aquariums where the mesh top
wasnt secured well)
, and the nice thing is you could lift it up when they are on top of the
screen, and just pick them up if you want.

good point about the pups, i didnt think of it!
i never had any, only female pairs..
