Thanks to all who educated me on Ivermectin! Guess
I'll add this to my arsenal of mite control products.
. .
One more clarification: You inject cats, give it
orally to dogs and horses. What about rodents? How
long is it effective?
You differed with my posting that most vets are not
that familiar with rodents, by saying that they used
them as "test" animals and, by inference, should know
about them. I have not found that to be the case. I
think the collective knowledge of folks on this board
is probably my best LOCAL source of correct
information.
For instance, my local vet treats more large animals
than small. He can expound on ivermectin use in sheep,
cattle or horses. We were using it in Dogs long
before it was approved for such. This vet, who is a
wonderful large animal vet, wouldn't know copper
toxicosis in Bedlingtons if presented with it, or
Cardio in dobes, "wobblers" in Danes. He would have a
general idea, but he is not an expert in problems that
are associated with particular breeds. He might have a
memory of collie adverse reactions to some drugs, but
I doubt if he would extrapolate it to Borzoi.
Having studied test rodents while in college would not
give him the base he needs for current treatments. So,
I ask first on the board, then take their ideas and go
to the vet. I have called around to try to find a vet
that is active in treating rodents, thinking that with
the large rat population (not the ones in City Hall!)
there would be one or two. No such luck. Its pretty
hit or miss . . .
Namaste.
