I appreciate all the help with explanations and
examples of clan and other names. I will ponder on it for a few weeks and
see what kind of names I come up with.
I hope my next inquiry generates as much
correspondence.
After a few trips to the petshop to purchase
hamster/gerbil food, I decided to make my own gerbil granola. I did not
like the way some of the prepackaged foods looked and I was bored with buying
the same "pricey" gerbil food. These are the ingrediants I have used in my
gerbil granola:
hay pellets
rolled oats (all my gerbils love
these)
wheat grains
millet
cracked corn
dehydrated carrots
sunflower seeds (I grew these myself)
I am getting low and want to make some more gerbil
granola. I was thinking about using some Kashi this time. It is a
seven whole grains and sesame pilaf. This is what it has in
it:
whole oats
long grain brown rice
whole rye
whole hard red winter wheat
whole triticale
whole buckwheat
whole barley
sesame seeds
Is there anything in this Kashi pilaf that the
gerbils should not have?
I would like to provide variety in their diet and
still be able to meet their basic nutritional needs. What are some other
ingrediants I can put in their granola? What are the things they should
not have? Are legume seeds such as dried peas and beans safe? I
heard uncooked legumes are poisonous. Is that just for people or does it
also apply to rodents also? Isn't alfalfa a legume hay? I don't
think it is a grass hay like timothy.
For treats I give them a variety of fresh fruits
and vegetables and nuts and seeds. I use raw nuts and seeds, not
roasted or salted. My pregnant and nursing moms get nuts and seeds
daily. The pups being weaned like the rolled oats and millet.
Thank you for helping me with this. I hope
others benefit with the correspondence on this subject also.
