One thing that can definitely help prevent metal wheel
injuries is mounting the wheel from the top of the
cage. This can be done in different ways depending on
the material the roof of the cage is made of. For
screen/wire , just use some twist ties to secure it to
the top. If you need some pictures for reference I may
be able to take a few.
