Shaw's jird tails are proportionately the same length as Mongolian (regular) gerbils. However, these species are rarely available in North America. Much more common in the US, are bushy-tailed jirds. As their name suggests, these animals have magnificent tails. They are long and very furry. I suggest you try to obtain some of these. Sue
