Nothing. That is why our code uses the commons logging abstraction. If you want to use JDK 1.4 logging all you need to do is configure commons to use the 1.4 log implementation. Since log4j is used in most enterprise deployments we have build special management tools to make it easier to work with, but that has no impact on 1.4 logging.
