I have recently started using XMedia Recode for batch conversions to convert both downloaded videos from .mp4 to XviD and for .aac audio to .mp3 (I used to use S.U.P.E.R., but the constant updates seemed to make it flaky). XMedia is freeware - it has an easy to use English interface but some of the help files are in German only. Not had any problems with it so far.

Where I wish to edit files (for instance, anything from BBC Radio 7 comes with long trails before and after the programme), I use Audacity to open the .aac, edit it and then export as an .mp3.

FWIW, I find .aac a pain in the rear end, simply because my mp3 player ignores them, so I have to fart about transcoding them first.

get_iplayer's .aac files are, admittedly, in a bad or broken container.
That does need fixing, although it should be pretty easy.

Can anyone recommend a Windows tool for converting these AAC files to MP3? I've tried a couple of different converters, but with no joy so far.

Thanks,

Chris
