I will ask the Computing Services staff here at UMBC to upgrade the
Gforth installed on the campus machines. The currently installed version
is 0.4.0, and is quite old and a little buggy (as you know ;). I'll ask
them to install 0.5.0, as, in my experience, it is bug-free and installs
with no problems. (I don't want to risk 0.6.x yet, as it won't be me
doing the installation).
My question is - do you remember any issues with respect to the
version of GCC used? The one they will use is probably 3.2.2 - is there
anything special they need to know, or any particular flags and options
that won't work with it? If it is not suitable for installing
Gforth0.5.0, which version is (I can ask them to use particular
versions, if needed). I care most about the speed of Gforth-fast on
Linux (they will install it on SUNs and SGIs too, but there it doesn't
matter), so is there any specific advice for getting the best speed there?
This question is primarily for Anton and Bernd, but I'd appreciate
any feedback with relevant experience.
