Hello Christiano, These are useful suggestions for Debian users who just need to get GHDL running, no matter what. However these are not solutions for the lack of a Debian package.
The sid package works, but is based on an old version of the GHDL source and depends on an old version of GNAT and conflicts with up-to-date versions of GNAT. The upstream binary release of GHDL is very old and only available for 32-bit. Neither of these methods are able to provide a problem-free, up-to-date installation of GHDL. I still think that an up-to-date Debian package for GHDL would be very useful to many people. Building GHDL from upstream source is quite difficult, and the upstream project does not provide up-to-date binary releases. The only way to get there is if a Debian maintainer steps up to take over the retired package. In the mean time: http://jorisvr.nl/ghdl_debian.html Joris.
