It's the same in Ubuntu 6.10 (edgy) - Gutenprint is described as gimp-print version 5.0.0-2ubuntu2. Note that there is a seperate cupsys driver for it at the same version level

I don't know Ubuntu, but in Debian (which is similar) there is a
package called gimp-print which is at version 5.0.0-3 right now and
contains the print plugin for Gimp.  What version do you have
installed?
