Oh yeah, things were going too smoothly this release so something had to be wrong...
OK, it seems that the latest Xcode doesn't correctly respect the minimum macOS version and uses symbols which aren't present on older systems. I fortunately have Mojave and older Xcode on my old macBook so I could compile Geany there.
