@wgtmac Hopefully this branch can be of some use: https://github.com/benibus/parquet-mr/tree/PARQUET-1647-float16. It should cover most of the initial boilerplate, at least. For generating the thrift definitions, I installed the [pending parquet-format branch](https://github.com/apache/parquet-format/pull/184) to my local Maven repo and edited the pom.xml to target the SNAPSHOT version.
