## Which issue does this PR close? Follow-up to #26242. ## Rationale for this change Sorted runs are already materialized when the merge reads them. Their one-batch lookahead still goes through ready futures and an asynchronous buffer. ## What changes are included in this PR? Use iterator lookahead while preserving the current/next batch reservation releases and EOF cleanup. Remove the now-unused `ReservationStream` wrapper and its dedicated tests. The shared sort-task limit and acquisition before spawning are unchanged. ## What is the testing strategy for this PR? Existing tight-memory lookahead, spill-workspace, drop and error tests cover the preserved behavior. No additional tests are needed for the removed wrapper. Formatting, full-workspace Clippy and extended workspace tests passed on the rebased branch.
