Another attempt. It seems to be an LDAP authentication issue. I added an non-LDAP user and I run the test against this user. All fetches pass within ~1s each.
It can be related to #4282 <https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-ce/issues/4282> "Strange issue with LDAP queries hanging" issue which is resolved in 8.3. I will try 8.3.
