I too have nickel allergy and find that all frames listed as metal contain nickel. Normally you should be able to wear titanium BUT bendable metal titanium also contains nickel. As for companies doing better with metal frames than plastic, I think it's all a matter of the frame. I think a frame with spring hinges is a better frame to start with. Here are a few options for you depending on the severity of your allergic reaction. Stainless steel is a good option. Watch closely the description that is listed for the frame. Some may state titanium or stainless steel bridge or hinges and that is just what it means, only the bridge or hinge portion is nickle free. I recently got rimless frame CO013 from O4L. It is metal but at no point does the metal touch my skin. The temple arms are covered by a plastic sleeve and I haven't had any problem wearing these at all. I also got a pair from Zenni with a stainless steel 1/2 rim and memory plastic hingeless arms. Haven't had a problem wearing these either even tho I had a bad reaction to sugical stainless once in a hospital. Some metal glasses come in colors. Some of these colors can be of a plastic type ( like they have been dipped ) and completely cover all the metal parts. I have been able to wear these as well. Us allergy sufferers will always be limited on selection but with so many good online retailers now, we have a much greater selection that we could ever find at a brick and mortar. Good Luck.
