As a quick update, this appears to have solved our problem. The edit boxes for
date entry can now be typed into directly bypassing the calendar, so it would
appear that the accessibility problems have been solved.
Thanks again for your help.

You must edit the file display.fonction.php

And modify the function showCalendarForm

change this line :

echo "<input id='show$rand' type='text' name='____".$element."_show'
readonly size='$size' value=\"".convDate($value)."\">";

by :

echo "<input id='show$rand' type='text' name='____".$element."_show'
size='$size' value=\"".convDate($value)."\">";
