Marko - Yes, I had cleared cache and cookies - several times - but that
didn't help. I originally asked this question a week or two ago. Some of
the replies may have been lost since then. I don't see the Reply text
jumping up if I'm writing very short emails of just 10-12 lines of text. It
only occurs when I'm writing longer emails, those which take up more than
the small initial size of the Reply box.

One member of the Users Group recommended that I should use the "pop out
reply" of the new Gmail interface, and that helps a lot. . It's "fiddly" as
the Brits would say, in the sense that the pop-out window doesn't like to
stay in the lower R corner of the screen; it's fine when I start my email,
but if I need to scroll back to the original email (the one to which I'm
Replying) the pop-out window minimizes itself. Then I have to click to
bring my Reply back onto the screen, but the Reply window now covers
the center of the screen, so the original email is obscured. I can resize
the Reply window in various ways, but I can't return it to the lower R
corner where it started out.
