It's - from an user point of view - an big improvment, since I could'nt manage to connect to an wireless AP in WPA mode with the older driver. However, I nm-applet didn't worked well and I installed wicd (1.6.2.2) instead. The only issue is a "unsupported platform" message when I launch "wicd" from the terminal. With "wicd-client", the "libnotify-Message" says "Unable to get session dbus: Did not receive a reply". I assume however that it's unlikely related to the new kernel...
