Hello.
I was trying gngeo 0.6.12 and noticed 'gngeo -l' wasn't giving the
name of the roms for most of the roms. After some debugging I noticed
that there are duplicate entrances in the romrc file, where the only
difference is that the name of the game is not ok...
I have noticed the same thing for a while, too.
I didn't really take care about that little annoyance so I didn't
analyze the duplicate entry like you did.
But I guess the driver repetitions of some ROMs are intentional,
because even if you see that the MAME name is similar, the content of
the drivers is modified to actually match different possible romsets
of the same ROM. (Do you confirm, Mathieu ?)
The problem comes from that the ROM's full names seem to be idicated
only once in romrc, at the first driver occurrence. After, it is
simply the MAME name which is used as full name.
So, Gngeo, which appears to display the last encountered full names
for ROMs in the `romrc', doesn't return the true full name but the
same strings as the MAME name when the `--listgame' command is called.
Such an issue should be fixed by patching Gngeo to make it memorize
ROMs' full names only at the first time it see it in the `romrc', then
ignore the next full name occurences. Full name information would
become useless in the `romrc' except for the first coming ROM driver
which should mention it compulsorily.
My 2 cents.
