I had an Epson that was always clogged everytime I tried to use it.  I finally got a black & white laser printer and put it on my network.  Brother sells a newer model for $99.  Add a USB network print server for $75 and you're there.

When my son needs/wants color (he's 2 right now) I'll probably look at a color laser or solid ink (Xerox/Tektronix phaser).  They're getting cheaper all the time and the quality is good enough for everything except photo stuff.  They're probably cheaper to run then ink jets too.
