To reproduce an import error, I'd start with:
python # start the python interpreter
>>> import cPickle
>>> cPickle.__file__
'/usr/lib/python2.5/lib-dynload/cPickle.so'
The above is what I get on my Fedora 8 laptop. If the import works for
you then debugging can get more complicated.
