He'd probably be interested in BarCamps. BarCamp is called an
"unconference". It's a format of conference where people suggest or offer to
to talks, and the conference schedule comes together at the event based on
people's interests in the proposed topics.

Unfortunately, you just missed BarCamp Boston this weekend (but here's where

FUDCon Boston in Juk 19-21. http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FUDCon/FUDConF10
FUDCon is a barcamp style event held specifically for users and developers
of the Fedora Linux distro.

The next Barcamp Manchester looks to be sometime in the Fall.

My understanding is that the MHT ones have a more general IT/technology
focus, not specifically Open Source.
