At risk of adding redundancy to the obvious, an Ubuntu 8.04 Xen box of mine has been giving me a lot of trouble. Kernel version 2.6.24-25-xen and mdadm 2.6.3 are not the newest, but they are the most recent in Ubuntu 8.04 repos, and I don't think they would count as old. The issue I have is well known and there might be a fix available in backports or proposed already, but I have yet to look as it seems to only be at boot and this machine is not one I can current reboot at will. Soon, baby. Anyway, in this case, it seems to be all about mdadm, not the kernel, so none of this is really on contradition to your comment about older kernels. =) For the bored or concerned Details can be found at these links: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mdadm/+bug/139802 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mdadm/+bug/188392 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/140854
