I'll echo what Kenneth says, including that the book really isn't very good.
At one point, the author actually says something like, "I don't know what this
does, but everything stops working if you block it, so don't block it."
*shudder*
I will make a recommendation for "Building Linux and OpenBSD Firewalls", by
Sonnenreich and Yates, from Wiley Computer Publishing. It is a good book,
isn't overly Red Hat specific, covers OpenBSD as well as Linux, and is an
extremely entertaining read as well.
If you're serious about firewalls, you'll also have a copy of "Building
Internet Firewalls" from O'Reilly. Considered by many to be the firewall
bible, it covers all aspects of IP firewalling theory and gives some practical
examples, in as much detail as you could need. It does pre-date Linux,
though, so you won't see ipchains examples.
