The "SMP" in the output of uname only indicates the kernel was compiled with SMP support. It doesn't indicate whether or not you have multiple processors. You clearly did compile with SMP support, so that's not your problem. Are you sure you really do have 2 processors? Many SMP-capable machines have a terminator in the second slot that looks a little bit (but not a lot) like a CPU card. Does the POST messages say that you have 2 CPUs installed? Another possibility is that your second CPU isn't working properly.
