Is there a statement on the Web site (attached in some way to the
book) that clearly states that, despite appearances, the book is
   not licensed under the GFDL?

Once again, this has very little relation to the issue. The book,
which is represented on the web page, is licensed under the GFDL, the
terms of the GFDL apply to the web page as they do to the book.
