Sadly (or not) this is not something that GnuCash can realistically handle
at this point.
There's quite enough on the "plate" making GnuCash into a featureful
personal finance package, without going into the further complexity of
supporting a multiplicity of journals with differing functionality.
(And every time this sort of thing comes up, I seem to have a relative in
town who "accounts" for a living, and I've had a theoretical discussion
about much this issue... Odd family, to be sure...)
I would *not* suggest using GnuCash for the purpose at this time anyways;
its robustness has not been sufficiently established.
I would suggest that you explore some of the commercial packages at this
time such as
<http://www.etrus.com> - AccounTools; based on Informix;
<http://www.appgen.com/app_main.html> - Appgen;
<http://www.conetic.com/css_freekit.html> - C/Books;
<http://www.fenix.com/> - Fenix;
<http://www.infoflex.com/accuindx.htm> - AccountFlex.
There are a lot of "alpha quality" packages being worked on; the only "free
one" that's realistically "ready for production" is CBB, and it is
definitely not suitable for your needs.
