Since 1.9.6 is the first official beta, I have uploaded it to the
Debian unstable distribution. (Previous 1.9 releases were only in
Debian experimental.)

However I'm not willing to switch my box to unstable just to play and test
with the new version. Do you think it would be possible to have a
"backports.org" new gnucash version compiled for sarge and/or etch?
I'm not sure how much work is needed to do that, but I sure would test
it if it is available.
