I tried to delete the trading account and my program crashed.  I tried again
and sometimes it crashes and sometimes nothing happens........How do we delete
that trading account....I do not need it, but it has transactions, I cannot
delete the transactions either.  There is also am imbalance account it has
transactions that are from other accounts that I manually updated the balances.
can it be deleted also.

Thanks David.....I'm almost afraid to try to delete that one account.....I'll
try later....i'm backing up manually and the auto also....so I will not loose
anything.   The thing I am trying to do now is set up online banking.......I
don't see much in the help files......looks pretty complicated without the help
file....I'm surprised it didn't import it all.....I don't think the recurring
auto reminders got imported either, but that is easy to create..the memorized
transactions got imported fine.

Frank,

You certainly had way too many issues with installing and starting to use
GnuCash.  Hopefully, you have seen them all and will enjoy the benefits now.

If GnuCash ever crashes again please report that here.

The help files come along automatically in Windows and most Linux packages.

I forgot to mention that there is a setting somewhere called "Use Trading

Frank,

There is still a problem with Gnucash on your computer because it should not be
crashing.

It may be somehow related to the account named Trading that GnuCash created.
Normally, GnuCash will only create that account for users that know that they
want to use a special feature that is there for investors to use to help with
capital gains calculations, and it normally isn't used by most people.

Actually, I am not sure how to safely delete that account (and prevent it from
coming back) if you do not want it, because it contains transfers to and from
your security accounts.  Perhaps a developer or another user can advise us
about that.   That is still not the cause of the crash, the developers may need
more details about that.

Good luck.

That lck file is the mechanism by which gnucash ensures that each file is
only opened once at a time. If that file is there, that means gnucash is
using the corresponding ".gnucash" file. Of course, if gnucash crashes and
is unable to delete that .lck file, it will superexist the gnucash process.
In this case, the correct choice is "open anyway", and copying everything
first is an excellent idea, too.
