Post a screenshot (or put it somewhere accessible, not sure if you can post images on this list) showing the reconcile window which will not allow you to just ignore that entry, even if it is dated before the reconcile date. Just to check, you are entering the closing balance from the bank statement aren't you, not from the GC balance? If you can't do that then post a screenshot showing that dialog instead.
