Hi Louise,
I'm sure everyone here has their own philosophy on how to handle that
question; but I'll just jump in with what I do personally. For my
checking account if I have a billing/destination account setup for
AutoPay, I don't worry or care about the destination account date. For
me, I enter the transaction date as the date that funds are actually
withdrawn from my checking account.
On the other hand, if it's a bill that I pay manually (i.e., not
AutoPay), then I'll enter the transaction date as the date I make the
payment to the billing/destination account. In that case, I don't worry
or care about the date that funds are withdrawn from my checking
account. For me, it's more important (in that case) to keep track of
the date that I make the manual payment.
If there's a long delay (i.e., more than a day or two) between when the
billing account receives the funds versus when the source account posts
the withdrawal -- and if I think it's important to keep track of that --
then in the split details of the transaction, I'll make a note of the
actual posting dates for both accounts. For example, the billing
account split will note that the posting date was 4/30/2026; but the
checking account split will note that the posting date was 5/3/2026.
But I only bother with that kind of detail if I feel that it's really
important to know that.
Anyway, that's how I handle the date discrepancies.

I would like to ask how you folks deal with the 5 - 7 days between
when a withdrawal is made, and the resulting transfer is deposited.
It would be nice to have the withdrawal date and the deposit date
correct, but I see no way of making it happen.
It is only a small thing, but if I could I would like to remove the
"confusion".
Any thoughts?
Louise
