Correct. The signature is encrypted and thus it needs to be decrypted before the signature can be checked. gpgv is only for checking signature becuase it is designed to work without private keys. Salam-Shalom, Werner -- Die Gedanken sind frei. Ausnahmen regelt ein Bundesgesetz.
