Konkani is actually spoken in a range of regional, social and community varieties. Not just across Goa, but also in coastal Karnataka, Maharashtra and parts of Kerala. These varieties are not identical: most will not understand another dialect easily and comfortable. There are significant differences in vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar and also the influence from neighbouring languages.
Maybe what we need is to preserve and develop all the major literary traditions (and even minor ones). Also to make it easier to transliterate and read Konkani across scripts. Konkanverter.com helps. Presently, serious script fragmentation is creating severe problems for digital preservation and access to Konkani literature. Prof WRdaS knows this issue well...
