Would someone clarify this for me: “The Portuguese also attempted to dissolve the village community governance but gave up the attempt…” Is there any documentation supporting this statement? My understanding is that there was a debate among Goans about this issue, with some Goans (e.g.  Francisco Luiz Gomes) proposing dissolving it, while other Goans (e.g., Filipe Nery Xavier) favoring maintaining it, but the Portuguese government never attempted to abolish that system.
